⥂ #urbit@muratideally every part of the system that is truly decentralized, starts out as custodial wallets or identities, but users have the option to take control of their keys
@ryjmand i really wouldn't let the chain transaction cost scare you away, it's very close to being negligible. you could even just spawn comets (no chain transaction) and map them to spiel identities - that would be a pretty interesting proof of concept tbh
@ryjmyour "custodial identities" would be off-chain comets managed by your infrastructure (essentially just booting one up for each user), and they could have the option to just retrieve their keys and run on their own computer
@ryjmand since the VM running a comet is the same as the one running a planet, you also give every planet owner the ability to join the network and host realms
@murathonestly I'm both really open to everything right now, & also by default skeptical of overkill solutions, and I'm trying to wrap my head around where urbit sits in this equation
@muratwhat I'm having trouble is finding succinct documentation that explains the auth flow & metadata management without using lots of weird space lingo lolol
