Moon is the beta map. The Earth map will commence with the official product launch later this summer. Start by reading #guide to learn about the hierarchical approach to channels, and feel free to drop some ideas at #feature-requests. Stay tuned for all the democratic moderation features coming in the next month or two.

@cuniiformin fact I'll test it here
@cuniiformnot completely sure I understand the mapping between the map and the subchannel list - I have subchannel perms but not map perms, so if I make a channel does it just not go on the map?
@muratmap locations are optional for channels. ~moon map is mostly just for play, but for an earth map it'll have more relevance to people and real shared contexts
@cuniiformoh hmm you can't add tags by editing

@murat@cuniiform you can think of it as just a way for discovering existing channels for now i think it'll go in new directions in the future imagine applications to campuses, conferences, festivals etc.
@kpaxle#feature-requests retain position in the feed - when new messages come in, don't automatically scroll user position to bottom (idk if this is only happening for me but i'm trying to catch up on earlier convos here and keep getting pulled down to current)
@murat@kpaxle ah good point! it should only auto-scroll if you're already at the bottom
@murati'll add that in asap

@cuniiformthat's kind of like how geocities worked right? it was a bit before my time
@murathaha was it?? i think maps came much later than that
@dmvaldman#@murat/roam tags/future ideas
@muratyeah tagging syntax is still confusing and buggy it would be @murat/roam_tags and @murat/roam_tags/future_ideas but autocomplete messed it up for you
@murathaha was it?? i think maps came much later than that
@cuniiformhttp://deletedcity.net/ while looking this up I found this, which is super neat
@muratyes, nice!! i think infinite zoom is such a cool UX trick for having stuff that nest infinitely into more and more specialization
@murathey @bora nice yo have you here
@boraI like the concept
@muratthanks, i feel a bit exposed. slowly getting over it

@kpaxlego big or go home! bringing people in is the right move - this is rad
@murata small detail: when you hover the "Thread" button, it highlights local messages that are replies to that post
@muratdunno if kinda jarring but maybe it makes it easier to read responses? idk
@muratalso has anyone noticed how fast the pages load? i'm like really proud of that
@gwillenso I tried creating an independent channel, as a subchannel of my channel, but I don't have permissions to it and I'm not sure how to configure it. Is that implemented yet?
@joelchan86want to try out backlinking. let me link to this msg: https://beta.spiel.com/~moon?spiel_id=a02aaed1
@joelchan86hello testing, here because of Norm Chella
@joelchan86backlinks?
@muratoh sorry @gwillen, independent channels are not finished yet
@murat@joelchan86 backlinks are for when you tag other channels, check out your own profile page for example to see what i mean
@murattagging messages directly works too but is hidden in the UI currentl i.e. ~moon[c894ed77]

@muratonly public & private channels work properly for now. need to add a few more things for independent
@gwillenhmm, I am trying to react to your messages here but the reacts do not appear
@gwillenaha, but it's a display update issue, refreshing makes them show up
@muratyeah yet another bug. i need to add these to my #todo list "socket updates break after a while"
@gwillenaha I see, indeed now they're back
@gwillenaha, I don't have to refresh, just switch channels
@gwillenthe problem is that the client is sending a spurious "leave_channel" for some reason
@muratworks fine for me after switching
@muratleave old & join new makes sense when you switch
@gwillenyeah but after awhile it's sending "join current" followed immediately by "leave current" out of the blue
@gwillentriggered by idleness maybe
@muratthanks that's very helpful
@gwillenhaha no problem! :D I have magical debugging powers.
@murati can see that :)
@boraspiel is open source? i not found on github
@muratnot currently @bora but it's definitely my intended path once I have enough monetization to keep development active
@canwriting here feels like i am witnessing the start of next big thing in online networking o7
@TommySpiel so spiffy @murat many wonderful details
